“The best part about INDUS is the atmosphere: it’s not a small company, but it feels
like one. I can call everyone here by their first name…Even the president.”
In his nine years with INDUS, Phi has mostly been involved with the technical side
of projects: software programming, database administration, and application maintenance
are some of his strong suits. However, Phi now has a chance to experience the business
aspect of IT—as a senior technical project manager.
“There have really been a ton of opportunities for me here. INDUS provided me with
classes, tutoring, mentoring, and hands-on experience to help me progress. I’ve
gone from a programmer to a manager because INDUS believed in my abilities. They
really make it easier for me to work.”
One of the projects that stands out the most for Phi was the Geographic Information
System (GIS) that he and his team developed for U.S. Border Patrol. The geospatial
technology his team designed is used to analyze and track activity along the border
and in ports around the United States.
“Because the GIS technology was so new, it was kind of difficult to get everyone
there on board. They were pretty comfortable with their old system, and it was a
challenge getting everyone to realize the true potential of the new software. My
INDUS team was able to show them the benefits of the new system and make the transition
as seamless as possible.”
But the most rewarding part? Knowing that his work led to critical success for the
client. “There’s just something really rewarding about being able to help my customers
with their mission.”

“INDUS is top-notch people who love their work. We’re focused; we know where we’re
going. There’s a certain energy here that’s really hard to find in this day and
age.”
Steve has been with INDUS since the company’s inception in 1993. As Technical Director
of GIS, he provides knowledge, guidance and leadership across the company for all
things geospatial.
“When I first got here, I didn’t know a thing about GIS—the technology was still
very new. INDUS gave me the means and opportunities to learn, to acquire new technical
skills and gain hands-on experience. Now I’m the GIS guy here.”
Steve accredits much of his progression to the culture of growth that INDUS fosters.
“The rapid growth of INDUS has provided me with some incredible opportunities, whether
they’re work or training related. Something else results from growth, though, and
that’s freedom; INDUS has always given me the freedom to pick up my stuff and move
to other projects if I need to.”

“INDUS gets it. I always have the best support and plenty of independence.”
“INDUS gets it. I always have the best support and plenty of Dave has been with
INDUS since 2002, when he signed on as a program manager for the company’s NASA
Scientific and Engineering Workstation Procurement (SEWP) program support contract.
Dave still manages the contract today, and has also taken on the responsibility
of heading the project support team for NASA’s Integrated Financial Management (IFM)
program.
The NASA SEWP program is one of the most successful in the Federal Government—and
Dave says that’s because it’s supported by INDUS.
“SEWP is one of the most successful programs out there, and most of the program is
INDUS people. It’s a great feeling knowing that my staff is making a real difference.”
Dave attributes INDUS’ ability to thrive in this arena to the company’s culture
and philosophy.
“INDUS has incredible executive support. When issues come up, there is always someone
there with an answer. Also, they’ve allowed me a tremendous amount of independence;
not only have they trusted me to know who my customers are and what they want, they’ve
actually encouraged me to go out and beat the bushes to bring in more business.”

“INDUS is like a big family. It really makes you feel welcome.”
Tia has worked on administrative projects for INDUS for six years, performing a
wide variety of tasks. She’s worked with project managers on funding issues, gathered
past performance data for RFPs, and helped reconcile numerous internal accounts.
“When I first started at INDUS, I really didn’t have much experience. After the
training and work I’ve done here, I’m now a valuable member of the team. I have
a career I never knew about! It’s been very challenging, but also very rewarding.
I’ve become more professional, I’ve bettered myself in my personal life, and I really
feel important on the job.”
What does Tia like most about working at INDUS? The people.
“It’s like a big family here. We do a lot of things together as a staff—a lot of
get-togethers. We really are a close-knit group of people. It’s family oriented
and there’s always room to grow. INDUS provides its employees with a nice work environment.”

“INDUS is so employee-focused. I can see myself staying here for a long time.”
Evan has provided INDUS with expertise in Web design and development since 2000.
He’s had experience working for both private and government agencies, but says that
he’s found a long-term home at INDUS.
“This is a place that I want to stay with. The culture, the people, especially our
CEO—they all encourage open dialogue with everyone in the company. Everyone listens,
no matter what level you are. Everyone at INDUS has an open mind to exchange knowledge.”
The INDUS culture of openness and sharing has helped Evan tackle tough tasks for
customers like the Department of Education. Evan’s team was in charge of maintenance
for an informational site for student loans when he noticed an issue with how the
program managed change.
“Whenever an announcement needed to go out, there was the possibility that it could
get lost. People would use paper, stickies on computers, the phone, email, all kinds
of ways. There were just too many sources and too many requests.”
Evan took what he had learned from INDUS to devise a solution.
“I sat side by side with them to see how they were doing things. I learned the hierarchy
of their organization, created definitions for each person’s position and work flow,
and developed a process and method for submitting changes and announcements. They
could finally see where the change requests were going! The interface we created
is still in use at that office today. This was a really big thing for them—they
were very happy with the project.”

“We’re the go-to people. I’ve never been at a company where management was this
‘clued in.’”
Cathy, an eight-year INDUS veteran, has managed acquisitions programs for both the
Department of State and the Department of Commerce. She characterizes herself as
a “problem solver.”
“I’m in charge of business operations support, which basically means I help people
work smarter rather than harder. I analyze problems and tasks within the program
and figure out the best way to solve them.”
Cathy truly believes she couldn’t do her job nearly as well as she does without
the support of INDUS staff and management. It’s the people at INDUS that really
make a difference.
“All the people here are top notch. They care about the customer and they care about
their people. I’m able to do what I want to do to get the job done, and if I need
help they’ve got my back. And everyone here is so smart—it seems like everyone is
always one step ahead.”
What makes INDUS employees different? Cathy says it’s the unique corporate culture.
“This is the first company I’ve worked for where the values they say they have are
real. We really do have the culture and integrity we advertise. INDUS realizes that
in order to take care of the customer, you have to take care of your people. It’s
a good place to work.”

“There’s an intangible factor about INDUS that makes it different from other companies.
We have our own way of doing things.”
In addition to being a subject matter expert on security operations, Debbie Moffett
is a program manager. She currently works for the Department of Transportation’s
FITSS program, helping to create innovative solutions for the Federal Highway Association
(FHWA). As a team leader, she loves the independence that INDUS gives her when running
her team.
Technical areas I’d never worked with before, and it was really an amazing experience
learning as I was leading. Many companies would never have let their program managers
do that. INDUS has the faith in its employees to put them out front and let them
shine.”
INDUS knows that with independence comes the need for knowledge. Mentoring, guidance,
and training are vital to ensuring customer programs are managed effectively.
“Going through the ranks as a manager, INDUS really makes sure you understand the
contracting environment. When your employees really know what they’re talking about,
it really builds confidence for them—and that confidence transfers to the customer.”
What makes INDUS employees different? Cathy says it’s the unique corporate culture.
