IT firm serving military picks Port SA for new office
By Tony Cantu - Contributing writer/Southside Reporter
  Web Posted: 08/12/2010 12:00 CDT
Virginia-based Indus Corp., an information technologies services provider for the military, has opened a regional office with more than 50 employees in Port San Antonio.
The firm provides IT services for government civilian, defense, homeland security and intelligence organizations. In a telephone interview, director of defense information systems Ted Milone said the privately held firm is transferring more than 50 of its employees in launching the regional office, located at 201 Paul Wagner Road at the Port San Antonio industrial park that once housed Kelly Air Force Base.
“We see San Antonio as being very important to the future of the Air Force,” said Milone, who is among the Indus employees at Silver Springs, Md. making the transfer. “We have found a need to expand and have hopes for significant growth.” complete article

Small-biz definitions put hurt on midsize contractors
  By Matthew Weigelt , Jun 28, 2010
…Companies — small, large or otherwise — need to be prepared to do their work well, because after a contract is awarded, agency officials aren’t concerned about a business’ size. They want quality work.
“It’s not about being a small business,” Krishnan said. “They don’t cut you any slack if you don’t perform well.”
Krishnan said companies need to be ready for increased oversight when they win a large contract. More regulations come with those awards, he said. complete article

  More Federal Reaction; Alarm.com

Shiv Krishnan, CEO of INDUS: “There may not be an immediate shift in terms of contracting dollars because of the government’s budget cycle. However, government customers will be cautious about funding new initiatives because of the changing priorities of a new administration. Our Internet society is used to instant gratification and immediate access to information, and as citizens we expect the same level of service from our government. How can the government do this with a decreasing workforce and increasing budget deficits? Technology! Companies focused on technology will continue to be in demand, but the challenge is to be aligned with the right programs which, with the new administration, will be civilian agencies like education, environment, energy, and healthcare.”  complete article
